As the oldest of two children, she often takes a backseat to the intensive care required by her younger brother, who is autistic. With her father working out of town for long stretches, her mother functions largely as a single parent, leaving little time or financial flexibility for extracurricular pursuits. Consequently, this student has never had the opportunity to explore her own passions outside of the home."
